Acorn Napkin Rings
My husband and I hosted our first family gathering in our new house on Thanksgiving. The morning of, I whipped up these napkin rings using burlap ribbon from Close to My Heart, acorns from a package of bowl filler from Pier 1 Imports, and a glue gun.
Mother's Day CardThis was the Mother's Day card I made for my mom this year. The card itself was from a box set from Home Sense. I used two different kinds of Washi tape, weaved and stuck it on. I attached a paper flower with a fancy brad in the bottom corner.
My Mom gave me the bird's nest and I put some eggs I bought at Pier One into the egg cups that I also found at Pier One. The moss bunny is another great find from Pier One. I have another moss bunny that stays out all year in one of my house plants. It is just too cute to put away.
I scattered some of those brown bird's nests from Pier One around my apartment and filled them with some little foam eggs from Dollarama. The eggs were part of a set from Pier One and I put them in my chipped Sophie Conran bowl that I got as a wedding present. I can't bear to throw it out and it is only chipped on the inside. And yes, I decorate the top of my microwave.
Here is my fake mantle. The green tree was something I found at Homesense. I filled my apothecary jar with the foam eggs from Dollarama. My other Dollarama finds were the blue nest and the egg branches in the white vase. I also found the cute bunny from Pier One which I had to buy since my Mom wouldn't part with her similar chubby bunnies. Go figure!
Valentines for my Grade 5s
It may have been that I had a busy weekend and that my husband was away and I didn't feel like going to Walmart by myself but whatever it was this year I made my own Valentines for my Grade 5 kidlets. I used the Close to My Heart "Whoo's your Valentine" promo stamp and whipped it right up.
My mom, sister, and I devoted two days on a November weekend to do some Christmas crafts. The original idea for this craft came from the Daisy Dreaming blog. We ended up using 8x10 canvasses for our reindeer and had to resize the reindeer silhouette a bit. This craft was super easy but I would recommend doing it outdoors as the glitter does get everywhere. Check out my sister's blog to see how she used glitter as the background instead of the reindeer.
I live in a basement apartment without a fireplace (sigh) so when it comes to decorating my mantel I have to improvise. This year I tried to set up some little vignettes around the apartment. This is my favourite one - a white and silver theme on top of my "china cabinet". The sticks in the white vase are from Urban Barn along with the silver reindeer and Christmas tree. Home Sense supplied the two owls and the little bird. The lantern was a wedding gift from my Aunt, the picture frame was a Dollarama original and the chalkboard print came from Nest of Posies blog. The white bird is blocking my glitter reindeer in a rude way but is also holding it up. The reindeer is leaning on my iPod dock.
